raha yun he na mukkamal gham-e-ishq ka fasaana
kabhi mujh ko neend aayi, kabhi so gaya zamana

( the story of my pained love remained unfinished,
at times I dozed off, other times the world went asleep )

ye addayein bahki bahki, ye nigaahein shaayrana
ki jahan bhee tumne chaha, wahin ruk gaya zamaana

(with these drunken charms, with these poetic eyes
wherever you wished you made the world came to a still)

tum apne hüsn-e-bekhud ko shikasht se bachana
meri har nazar jalwa hai, mere saamne na aana

(shield your unaware beauty from subjugation
every glance of mine has splendour, do not be in front of me)

Mujhe iska gham nahin hai ki badal gaya zamana,

(am not worried that the world has changed
my life is because of you, lest you change)

wahin jaam me dubo dee, meri mastiyon ne tauba
jo utthi nigaah-e-saaqi mujhe mil gaya zamana

(there only, in the goblet, my exuberence immersed my abstinence
I got the world when the bar-girl raised her eyes )

meri zindagi tera gam, tera gam mataa-e-aalam
mere saath surf tu hai, tere saath hai zamana

(life is sorrows begotten from you, these sorrows are my worldly treasures
I only have you and you have the whole world with you)

hai mujh mein aur tujh mein koi fark tou bas itna
teri zindagi hai haqiqqat meri zindagi fassana

(if there is any difference between you and me, it is this
your life is a reality and mine is a fiction)

Wo abhi gaye hain jaana, issi raaste se ho kar
mere dil ko ye yakin hai ki guzar gaya zamana

(O' dear they have just gone past, by this road
my heart is convinced that the world has crossed away)

Meri zindagi hai 'Iqbaal', inhin dono manzilon mein
kabhi Hans ke aah bharna kabhi ro ke muskaraana

(O Iqbal, your life is limited between these two ends
at times laughing while sighing, at times sobbing while smiling)

'Iqbaal'

Adding my makhta to this ghazal

dil-e-barham ko 'muztarib' kaise hai chain aaya
kabhi tum  ko yaad karna, kabhi hud ko bhool jaana

O 'Muztarib' how did you calm the agitated heart
at times  by thinking about you, at times by forgetting myself

[पस-ए-ज़िन्दां = behind the bars/prison ]

[अर्श के ज़ीने = staircase/ladder to heaven,शानों   = shoulder, निगूँ = bend ]

[मता-ए-इश्क़ = treasure of love, चुनिंदा  = selected ]

koi baat nahin gar hum pas-e-zindaa.N hain
ye baat kuch kam hai ki bas hum zindaa hain

tere arsh ke zeene mere shaane se gai thee.n
nigoo hue kyun, iss baat pe sharmindaa hain

ik hum hee nahin jashn mein tere, aur sab tou hain
mai hai, jaam hai, saaqi hai aur rindaa.N hain

ab aur kyaa baaki raha hamaare darmiyaan
chand lamhein mataa-e-ishq ke jo chunindaa hain

bhool tou jaayen use, magar phir jaayein kahaan
ye zamiin bhee usi kee hai, jahan ke ham baashindaa hain

aaj hum ishq ka paiaam dekhenge
ruddad-e-dil ab sar-e-aam dekhenge
[paiaam = message, ruddad-e-dil = report of heart; sar-e-aam = amongst everyone ]

raat gayi, din khaali,  ab shaam dekhenege
[ misre   = a line of a couplet,muntazir  = awaited ]

'Muztarib'

A rough translation of the above ghazal is given below:

the Response of love, today we shall see
the Report of heart, amongst everyone,we shall see

the Letter, that the messenger, didn't hand to me
whose address, whose name is on it, we shall see

in the dark nights, few shadows of memories remain
gazing at the moon from top of the roof, ain't any more

With closed eyes, I will embrace everyone
Whether I get a Dagger or the Wine, now God (Ram) shall see

Awaited is 'Muztarib', for a verse to come
with night gone, day waisted , in the evening, we shall see

'Firaaq' Gorakhpuri

Adding my own sher to this Ghazal ( its not fitting the Bahar though)

sargoshi hai bazm-e-ishq me, sabab tere -ikhtilaaf  ka

Putting a rough translation to this Ghazal

from head to toe you are a tale and such strange is this congregation's situation
that every tongue is talking  of these delicate eyes and every talk is about the arrogant silence

she is an aspect of complete beauty, she is total kiss and embrace,
she is the face to look at, she is the mouth to kiss on

the  magicking by the eyes and versifying by the silence
your eyes are Samri's magic , your lips are tale of Nal and Damayanti

with perfection, the emotions of the heart on fire, alters the movement of the celestial
on morning its a face of garden and on evening its locks of  hair

that smile of the tender heart,  that spring on the face of the beauty
that half blossomed flower, that freshness of the garden

someone should have seen , with my eyes, the expanse of your party
every corner of which was an infinite space, every moment of which was eternity

for you the destination too is pathway and for me the roads are also the destination,
the difference is that its your way to travel and this is my way of walking.

the light from the warmth of those lips, the light from the smile,
that coquettish way of yours, that glance of yours like rubies.

sadden and extinguished; is Firaak's life worthy of living,
but then the sown field of today's poetry is only due to him .

'Firaaq' Gorakhpuri

Whispers, about the reason of our differences, are going around the gathering of love
and your mouth says its me but your eyes says its you
