Tujhe yaad kya nahin hai mere dil ka wo zamana

(Seema Anil Sehgal sings 'Tujhe Yaad kya nahin hai')

Tujhe yaad kya nahin hai mere dil ka wo zamana
wo adab gahe muhabbat, wo nigah ka taaziyaanz

Do not you remember, those years of my love
those time of polite intimacy, those whips of amorous glances

[ अस्र = age/time, हाज़िर = present, अदा = elegance, तराश = chiseled; आज़राना = like maiden]

ye butan-e-asr-haazir kee bane hain madrase mein
na adaa-e-kaafirana na tarash-e-aazraanz

These idols of present times are made in factories
devoid of infidel elegance, devoid of chiseled curves of Maiden

[ गोश = ear; फ़रागत = time for rest/comfort]

nahin iss khuli fazaa mein koi gosh-e-faraagat
ye jahan ajab jahan hai, na qafas na aashiyaana

in this clear conditions there is no sound of respite
this world is a strange world; without cage , without home

[ रग -ए-ताक = veins of vine/grapes, मुन्तजिर = awaiting, अजम = Persia;  मुगाना  = fireworshiper]

rag-e-taak muntazir hai teri baarish-e-karam kee
kee azam ke maikadon mein na rahi mai-e-mugaana

the veins of the vine is awaiting the rains of your favor
as the taverns of Persia have gone without the wine of fireworshipperes

mere hamsafar ise bhee asar-e-bahaar samjhe
unhein kya khabar ke kya hai, ye nawaa-e-aashiqana

my fellow travellers attribute it to the spring
they do not know what is this sound of love

[ सिला = a gift/present/return तब-ओ-ताब-ए-जाविदाना = heat and power of eternity/perpetual]

mere khaaq-o-khoon se tune ye jahan kia hai paida
silaa-e-shaheed kya hai tab-o-taab-e-jaawidaana

from my dust and blood you created this world
what gift can a martyr give? the strength and power of eternity

[ बंदा परवरी = looking after the worhsipers / subordinates  गिला = complaint, शिकायत-ए-ज़माना = complain of the times ]

My days are being spent because of your benefecence
Nor I lament about friends nor I have complaint about the time

sitaron ke aagah jahaan aur bhee hai...

Contentment]

[मकामात-ए-आह-ओ-फुगाँ = destination of pain and lamentation ]

[रोज़-ओ-शब् = days and night, ज़मां-ओ-मकां  = time and destination ]

Sitaron Se Aage Jahaan Aur Bhi Hain
Abhi Ishq Ke Imtihan Aur Bhi Hain

Beyond the stars are even more worlds
There are still even more tests of passion

Tihi Zindagi Ke Nahin Yeh Fazaayein
Yahan Sainkadon Kaaravaan Aur Bhi Hain

These expanses are not devoid of life
Here there are hundreds of other caravans too

Qanaa'at Nah Kar Aalam-e-Rang-o-Bu Par
Chaman Aur Bhi, Aashiyaan Aur Bhi Hain!

Don't be contented with the world of color and scent
There are other gardens, other nests (resting places), too

Agar Kho Gaya Ek Nasheman Tho Kya Gham
Muqaamaat-e-Aah-o-Fughaan Aur Bhi Hain!

If a nest (home) was lost, what's the [cause of] grief?
There are other places for sighing and lamenting

Tu Shaaheen Hai, Parvaaz Hai Kaam Tera
Tere Saamne Aasmaan Aur Bhi Hain

You are a falcon, your task is to fly
Before you there are other skies as well to cover

Isi Roz-o-Shab Mein Ulajh Kar Nah Rah Jaa
Kih Tere Zamaan-o-Makaan Aur Bhi Hain
Don't remain entangled, in this day-and-night
For you have other times-and-places too

Gaye Din Ke Tanhaa Thaa Main Anjuman Mein
Yahaan Ab Mere Raaz-Daan Aur Bhi Hain!

The days are gone when I was alone in the gathering
Here, now, I have other secret-sharers too

kabhi aye haqiqat-e-muntazar

(Ustad Nusrta Fateh Ali Khan Sings 'Kabhi aye Haqeeqat")

[हकीकत-ए-मुन्तज़र = The Awaited Reality;  लिबास-ए-मजाज़  = In material robe; ज़बीं-ए-नियाज़= foreheads in supplication]

[ तरब  = pleasure; आशना-ए-खुरूश = friendship with tumult; नवा = sound/tune; सुरूद = melody; सुकूत = silence; पर्दा-ए-साज़ = behind the tune ]

[शिकस्ता = broken; अज़ीज़तर= better; निगाह-ए-आइना साज़ = in the eyes of maker of the mirror  ]

[ दम-ए-तौफ़ = during circumbulation; करमक-ए-शमा = the moth to the fire; असर-ए-कुहन = the old effect; हिकायत-ए-सोज़  = stories of sorrows; हदीस-ए-गुदाज़ = heart melting tales ]

[ अमां  = protection/security; जुर्म-ए-खानाखाराब = crime of destruction; अफ़व-ए-बन्दानवाज़ = in the grace of almighty]

[सर-बसज्दा =head  in prostration; सदा = call/sound; सनम आशना = friends of idols ]

Adding a makhta of my own :

Kabhi Ae Haqiqat-e-Muntazir! Nazar Aa Libaas-e-Majaaz Mein
Ke Hazaar Sajde Tadap Rahe Hain Meri Jabeen-e-Niyaaz Mein

Tarb Ashnay-e-Kharosh Ho, Tu Nawa Hai Mehram-e-Gosh Ho
Woh Surood Kya Ke Chupaa Huwa Ho Sakoot-e-Pardaa-e-Saaz Mein

Tu Bachaa Bachaa Ke Na Rakh Isse, Tera Aaeenaa Hai Woh Aaeenaa
Ke Shikast Ho To Aziztar Hai Nigaah-e-Aaeenaa Saaz Mein

Dam-e-Tauf Karmak-e-Shama Ne Ye Kaha Ke Woh Asar-e-Kahan
Na Teri Hikaayat-e-Soz Mein, Na Meri Hadees-e-Gudaz Mein

Na Kaheen Jahaan Mein Amaan Mili, Jo Amaan Mili To Kahaan Mili
Mere Jurm-e-Khaana Kharab Ko Tere Ufuw-e-Banda Nawaaz Mein

Na Woh Ishq Mein Raheen Garmiyaan, Na Woh Husn Mein Raheen Shokhiyan
Na Woh Ghaznavi Mein Tadap Rahi, Na Kham Hai Zulf-e-Ayaaz Mein

Jo Mein Sar Ba-sajda Huwa Kabhi To Zameen Se Ane Lagi Sada
Tera Dil To Hai Sanam Aashna, Tujhe Kya Mile Ga Namaaz Mein

Adding a makhta of my own :

tawaaf-e-dair-o-haram kiye, kabhi suni na apne dil ke sada
tu raha hamesha saath mere , main dhonndhata raha riwaaz mein

----

The below mentioned translation is taken from here

For once, O awaited Reality, reveal Yourself in a form material,
For a thousand prostrations are quivering eagerly in my submissive brow.

Know the pleasure of tumult: thou art a tune consort with the ear!
What is that melody worth, which hides itself in the silent chords of the harp.

Do not try to protect them, your mirror is the mirror
Which would be dearer in the Maker's eye if they broken are

During circumambulation the moth exclaimed, "Those past effects
Neither in your story of pathos, nor in my tale of love are"

My dark misdeeds found no refuge in the wide world
The only refuge they found was in Your Gracious Forgiveness

Neither love has that warmth, nor beauty has that humour
Neither that restlessness in Ghaznavi nor those curls in the hair locks of Ayaz are

Even as I laid down my head in prostration a cry arose from the ground:
Your heart is in materialism, no rewards for your prayers are.

---

I circumbulated the temples and mosques; never did I listen to the call of heart
you were always with me; and I was searching for you in traditions.
