[ अर्ज़-ए-वफ़ा = request for loyalty]

[ रुदाद-ए-गम-ए-उल्फत = story/tale/report of pain of love, हर्फ़ = word ]

[ अरबाब-ए-जूनून = friends of madness, सवाद-ए-उल्फत = valley of love, फुरकत = separation,  ]

[महफ़िल-ए-कैफ-ओ-मस्ती  = party of happiness and  joy, अंजुमन-ए-इरफानी = garden of wisdom/knowledge ]

jashn-e-saal girah

[जमजमा  = poetry/couplets; नूर-जहानी  = light of world]; अफ़कार = worries; महफूज़ = secure ]
[आरिज़ = cheeks; जोर-ए-शबाब = power of beauty]

* Majaz 'Lakhnawai' is considered to be the 'Keats' of Urdu poetry. He was born in in 1911 in the small town of Radauli in the erstwhile Awadh as Asraar ul Haq. He died in 1955 at the tender age of 44. I have tried the lieteral translation of above nazm:

In the gathering she is unquite
sitting with graceful poise and diffidence
with shyness in her eyes and smile on her lips

Her veneer of flower is flowing like waves
and behind the veil is the moon face
at times luminous at times faint

shyness floating in those intoxciating eyes
heaven and earth are swaying to her dance
and the poet feels like kissing her feet

you are the inspiration of my poetry
you are the light of this world
may your youth बे concealed from worries

let your eyes drip more wine
your pink cheeks scent more rosy
may god make you more beautiful.
